Cargo Assessment – Air and Marine
The field of marine and air cargo assessment requires expertise and special training. Our assessors have gone through specific, professional training for inspecting damage caused to marine cargo during transit, while executing the following inspections:
Preparation of “protest letters” to the relevant entities that were involved in case of damage to cargo, evaluation of the damage and preparation of an opinion for the cargo insurers and/or the court.
The transit processes include air, marine and land transit, covered by various insurance policies, starting from marine insurance policies, coverage for Goods-in-Transit and specific cargo insurances.
A marine assessor is authorized to inspect all the cargo transit processes, starting from the stage of packaging and loading, through recommendations for preventing damages during transit and all the way through accompanying the process of the cargo unloading and inspecting goods on land transit.
The cargo’s packing method and type must be observed. Upon ordering the goods, it is advisable to ensure that the supplier implements and takes all the required means to pack the cargo properly and to prepare it for international transit.
In most cases, damage that was caused to cargo in transit occurs during the loading and unloading processes and therefore, it is highly important to insist on packing the goods in proper, protected packaging in a form that will assure its durability throughout the transit conditions.
It is important to note that in many cases, marine cargo and Goods-in-Transit insurance policies do not cover damages that were caused to goods or to cargo due to improper packaging or fastening. Therefore, the person ordering the goods must ensure the safe packing of the ordered cargo in order to prevent its damaging during transit.
In case of damage, the assessor must inspect the involved factors that were responsible for the incident, examine the existence of other insurance policies and evaluate the damages that were caused to the cargo or the goods in real time.
